Construction Estimator

We currently are seeking an Construction Estimator to join our team! The ideal candidate will have previous experience in construction project management / estimating, be organized, motivated, detail-oriented and driven. This candidate will help formulate and implement initiatives to prepare estimates and proposals for distribution to clients. This candidate will be focused and have strong communication skills. They should be able to think critically when making plans and have a demonstrated ability to execute a strategy.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Accounting, Applied Science, Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 3 – 4 years’ prior industry related experience
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and Technical Writing skills
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Focused and goal-oriented

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates, inclusions/exclusions, in total compliance with the bid set documents and schedule.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, developing the pricing for work to be performed and work to secure vendor rates and prices.
  • Make phone calls to solicit subcontractor proposals.
  • Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Ensure timely completion of estimates.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain cost data base by entering and backing up data.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other evolving duties as required, assigned or projected.

Construction Project Manager

SMR Construction, Inc. (SMR) is an award-winning full-service general contractor, based in DFW, TX with over 20 years of experience in both the Government and Private sectors.

We currently seek a Construction Project Manager to join our team.  This position is responsible for providing overall management, direction, completion and financial outcome of a construction project. Directs and supervises activities related to contract administration, change orders, submittals, procurement, project financial projections, and schedule requirements to ensure projects are completed in a quality, profitable, and timely manner. Maintains a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations. Builds Business with current customers by delivering on our promises and creates new business with potential customers in a proactive manner, promoting all of our construction services.

Responsibilities & duties:

  • Ability to execute Pre-Construction, Planning, and Budgeting Phase; including building and updating construction schedules
  • Review owner contracts
  • Write subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Prepare and manage subcontractors’ submittals
  • Prepare and maintain monthly Project Status Reports
  • Negotiate and prepare Change Orders
  • Review and approve subcontractors’ monthly pay applications
  • Oversee daily project operations with on-site Superintendents
  • Ability to resolve project and contract issues with Clients and Subcontractors
  • Manage the project Close-out process; produce warranty management plans, operation & maintenance manuals, as-built packages, etc.
  • Ability to efficiently manage simultaneous projects

Work experience & skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences, Architecture or Construction Management
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven work experience with a General Construction firm
  • Experience in Commercial/Government projects of $1-5M (Ground-up, Renovations, Additions)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Primavera, and MS Project software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Understanding of all general construction trades
  • General knowledge of construction principles and practices required
  • Job cost estimating skills are a plus
